Using the train to travel to hidden gems, getting on and off at different stations to explore the North Down countryside. Our trains are clean, comfortable and reliable as well as being a more sustainable way to travel. Starting in Belfast’s Lanyon Place Train Station we offer a half day walking tour or a full day to include a visit to Bangor and Abbey Tour. For those who love a good walk followed by a hearty lunch, our Hungry Hiker half day tour is bound to appeal. Travel to Carnalea station to walk along the famous North Down Coastal path to the village of Crawfordsburn for lunch or coffee at The Old Inn. This beautifully thatched inn dates back to 1614 and has played host to many famous historical figures and famous faces. After lunch it’s a gentle walk along country lanes following part of the Ulster Way to Helen’s Bay station where we board the train for the return journey. Our full day Time Traveller Tour is designed to appeal to people who really love to get to know a place and learn about its history. Starting at Lanyon Place station to travel along the only surviving line still in operation on the Belfast and County Down Railway system. Along the way we stop off in Holywood for a walking tour of this fashionable seaside town. Our next stop is the quirky Scottish Baronial style station of Helen’s Bay which was built for the Marquis of Dufferin and Ava. Our final stop is the historical town of Bangor where we visit Bangor Abbey followed by lunch in Bangor Castle. There is time to explore the Castle’s walled garden and museum before catching the train back to Belfast.
